Unless

(Gina Holsopple)
he played politics
like a game of chess
he the king and so I was the queen I guess
I got sacrificed
when the time was right
so I chose to get out of that game
and every time I have to make that choice
I’m by the water and she’s singin’ my song
and I’ve got no choice but to start singing along
she sings note after
note after note
after
washes me over
unless you’re an ocean
unless you’re an oak tree
what to do if you’re just me I really don’t know
unless you’re a pirate
unless you’re a cowboy
unless you’re divine
what to do to be just fine
unless you’re you
who knows what to do
you’re the chosen one like a golden son
I’m the tag-along
I’m the vagabond
you said “get out there
make them look at you”
you said “I’ll be here
show what you can do”
and every time I have to make that choice
I’m by the water and she’s singin’ my song
and I’ve got no choice but to start singing along
she sings note after
note after note
after
washes me over
unless you’re an ocean
unless you’re an oak tree
what to do if you’re just me I really don’t know
unless you’re a pirate
unless you’re a cowboy
unless you’re divine
what to do to be just fine
unless you’re you
who knows what to do
now my dreams are all learning how to crawl
they are grinning cuz soon they’ll be
big and strong
and every time I have to make that choice
I’m by the water and she’s singin’ my song
and I’ve got no choice but to start singing along
she sings note after
note after note
after

washes me over
unless you’re an ocean
unless you’re an oak tree
what to do if you’re just me I really don’t know
unless you’re a pirate
unless you’re a cowboy
unless you’re divine
what to do to be just fine
unless you’re you
who knows what to do
now every time I have to make that choice
every time I have to make that choice
now every time you have to make that choice

Long Dirt Road

(Gina Holsopple)
I spent every sunday morning learning how to sing loud
every part in every octave
singing god to come down
singing love
singing power
singing peace to come
now we raise our spirits from the ground
there’s nothing like the sound
when we sing
love is
we are pilgrims
traveling down this long dirt road
I can hear my family singing
every time the wind blows
grandpa taught me what to look for just before it rains
he taught me how to recognize all the subtle changes
how to harvest
how to grow
how the earth just lets you know
now we gather up our things and gather round the moon
we call out to our saints for them to come and bless us soon
so please mommy sing it’s been a hard day
I just want to hear you say
love is
we are pilgrims
traveling down this long dirt road
I can hear my family singing
every time the wind blows
love is
we are pilgrims
traveling down this long dirt road
I can hear my family singing
every time the wind blows
