Wandering, Mystified

(Gina Holsopple)
I’m a river that can’t even reach her banks
I’m a building with nothing inside
I feel welcome from the weary and desolate
and I long for the lovers who cry

I’m a treasure but nobody looks for it
I’ve got wisdom exploding inside
I can play you like a very fine instrument
and then I will take to the sky

we’re all lost. Wandering, mystified
at the high cost of being alone
but we’re too scared to jump off the cliff recklessly
and leave our hearts bare to crash into the stone

I’m a tree in the autumn that’s wonderfully colorful
but the winter will come and my leaves will all die
I always view laughter as my only alternative,
but when you all go I will break down and cry…

we’re all lost. Wandering, mystified
at the high cost of being alone
but we’re too scared to jump off the cliff recklessly
and leave our hearts bare to crash into the stone

we’re all lost. Wandering, mystified
at the high cost of being alone
but we’re too scared to jump off the cliff recklessly
and leave our hearts bare to crash into the stone

More Than Enough

(Gina Holsopple)
somehow while you were gone i started naming everything that i thought was wrong
and i found myself not on any shelf
i found i had more than enough compassion more than enough to say
more than enough reasons to run away

i think we need some inner core something that throbs with reality
look how we all want to be so much more
and i saw, i think i saw myself
i saw i had more than enough experience more than enough to do
more than enough to fight for. so do you

it’s just, it’s just about the time we sit down
just about the time we say ‘oh well. the world will still go round’
it’s time now for me to take the floor
i say ‘you can’t think that i will feign this ignorance anymore!’

suddenly i found. i think i found myself
i found i had more than enough experience
more than enough to say
more than enough reasons to want to stay
and i saw. i think i saw myself
i saw i had more than enough compassion
more than enough to do
more than enough to fight for
so do you.

Standing in the Ocean

(Gina Holsopple)
i dreamt i was standing in the ocean and i wanted to believe
that everything around me wasn’t moving
that something was sturdy

i think i’m dreaming that you are by my side
i wake up screaming so scared that the light is coming too soon

we are always moving and i guess that i don’t mind
that we are always proving that we will be just fine

i think i’m dreaming that you are by my side
i wake up screaming so scared that the light is coming too soon

i think we shared a moment i can see it in your eyes
and that memory is going nowhere inside my mind

Warrior

(Gina Holsopple)
She knew she would never belong.
She knew they would never think that she could be so strong.
He was so charming, healthy and wise
they never doubted they’d have a beautiful life

She was a warrior, too. She taught me what fighting can do
She said “Somehow we will survive. We’ll learn how to shape this new life.”

An orphan in the wrong time and place,
her only comfort was in her brother’s face.
She grew up in a family she couldn’t call her own
until she could finally leave home.

They had a little white church and a family of seven.
He worked and he prayed and she tried to appease them all.
In a sudden three months he left them forever.
Now it was solely her job to keep their family together.

She was a warrior, too. She taught me what fighting can do
She said “Somehow we will survive. We’ll learn how to shape this new life.”

She doesn’t know how she can work so hard.
She doesn’t know why she has made it this far.
She dreams of justice. She dreams of God.
She dreams of ties that go deeper than blood

She was a warrior, too.
She taught me what fighting can do.

She was a warrior, too. She taught me what fighting can do
She said “Somehow we will survive. We’ll learn how to shape this new life.”
